Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

As we come to the end of another joyful week in school, I would like to thank you for the wonderful spirit of community that continues to shine through our St Anne Line family.

This morning’s Breakfast Morning was a particularly special occasion. It was a delight to see parents, families and children sharing breakfast together. Moments like these remind us how important it is to nurture not only our children’s learning, but also the relationships that strengthen our school community.

Earlier this week, we shared our Teaching and Learning Pedagogy with you. This document reflects our commitment to providing the very best education for your children – rooted in high expectations, inclusivity and our Gospel values.

This week, Year 1 were captivated by their Great Fire of London workshop, delivered by Freshwater Theatre. The children were thoroughly engaged and brought their historical learning to life through drama and storytelling – a wonderful example of immersive learning in action.

Our Book Fair competition for the £5 vouchers was met with incredible enthusiasm. The entries were fantastic and choosing winners was no easy task!  The winners will be announced on Monday – well done to all who took part.  Please find the winners in next week's newsletter.

Rock Steady continues to go from strength to strength. It has been a joy to see the children’s confidence and musical skills flourish week by week. Their progress has been remarkable.  If you are interested in your child joining the bands, then please contact the office.

Looking ahead, we have a very busy and exciting week. World Book Day takes place next Thursday and we are very much looking forward to celebrating our love of reading together. The Book Fair will run from Tuesday to Friday in the hall after school until 4pm. Parents and children are warmly invited to come along, browse the books.

Please also see the letter we have sent out with further details about our World Book Day arrangements for the week, including opportunities for you to come into school to read with your child and information about our dress-up day next Thursday. We can’t wait to see the wonderful costumes and share in the excitement of the day.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Measles Outbreak

There is a large outbreak of measles in children in North London.  Some children have been hospitalised.  Our proximity to the capital means there will be cases of measles in Essex children.  If you are a parent or guardian of a child who is not up to date with vaccinations now is the time to get your child protected.  This can be done by contacting the East of England community and school-aged immunisation service on 0300 555 5055 or through their GP practice.  Advice to parents/carers on measles can be found on the Government webpages and general information on measles is available on the NHS webpages.

Branch 4 - Desert to Garden

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Desert to Garden. For this, the children will learn that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day’ (1 Cor 15:3).

In this branch, pupils will study the season of Lent and its culmination in the events of Holy Week. They will learn about the Paschal Triduum at the heart of the Catholic Church’s Liturgy and life. The title of this branch points both to the liturgical journey from the desert of Lent to the garden of Resurrection, but also to the Paschal journey from darkness to light.

Nursery & Reception

The focus for this branch is: God loves me. God made me and the world.  The children will learn that Lent is a time to care for others, that the Church uses purple and ashes as signs of Lent and being sorry, that Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey, that Jesus died on Good Friday, and Jesus rose on Easter Sunday.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 4 for year 1 pupils is to learn a little about the season of Lent as a time to prepare for Easter and to know the story of the last week of Jesus’ life, his death, and resurrection. The Resurrection is revisited in the next branch, so this branch concludes with the women meeting the angel by the empty tomb.

Year 2

The theme for this term is Holy Week Easter Vigil.  In this branch, pupils will consolidate learning about the events of Holy Week. They will make links between the forgiveness Jesus shows at his Crucifixion and the ministry of Jesus studied in the previous branch. They will also explore how Lent is a time of reconciliation and forgiveness for Christians because they want to restore their relationship with God to be ready to celebrate the Resurrection.

They will develop an early understanding of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and how Catholic people spend time thinking about how they have fallen away from God and how the sacrament helps them restore this relationship.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Reeves has recommended 'On the Way Home' by Jill Murphy.  This is a funny and clever picture book about a little girl called Claire who goes to buy eggs from the shop. On her way home, she keeps meeting different people and animals. Each time, she tells a bigger and more exciting story about how she hurt her knee.

The pictures are bright and clear, and they help tell the story really well. Miss Reeves enjoyed spotting how Claire’s story changes each time she meets someone new when she was little. It made Miss Reeves use her imagination and she pretended she was Claire.  This book is lovely to share with all ages and particularly suitable for children aged 5-7 years.

Showcasing our Children's Writing

Here is a QR code to view some of our amazing children's writing from this term.  We are so lucky to teach such creative children who love learning and writing.  Our teachers have shared this with the children too so they can all feel proud of their writing skills and see how the stages of writing progress as they move through the school.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun
