Weekly Message from Mrs Warren

We have had a truly wonderful week in school. As part of Science Week, the children have been busy being curious scientists, exploring the world around them and asking lots of fantastic questions. Our Curiosity Day was a real highlight, with children thinking like scientists and taking part in sensory exploration activities that sparked their imagination and sense of wonder.

In Nursery, it was lovely to welcome families in to celebrate Mother’s Day ahead of Mothering Sunday. The children had such a special time sharing the morning with their loved ones, and Miss Keeley led a joyful dance session that everyone really enjoyed. The celebrations continued this afternoon with Year 1, who sang beautifully to their mummies – a very proud and special moment for all involved.

Year 1 also enjoyed getting out and about on their geography walk around the local area. The children were busy spotting human and physical features and asking lots of great geographical questions as they explored.

A reminder that our annual CAFOD Big Lent Walk takes place tomorrow at Langdon Hills Nature Discovery Park. We are really looking forward to seeing lots of our families there at 11am as we come together to support this important cause and spend some time together as a school community.

As we continue our Lenten journey, may this be a time to pause, reflect and think about the small ways we can show kindness, love and care to those around us.

Have a lovely weekend,

Blessings.

Mrs Warren

Branch 4 - Desert to Garden

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Desert to Garden. For this, the children will learn that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day’ (1 Cor 15:3).

In this branch, pupils will study the season of Lent and its culmination in the events of Holy Week. They will learn about the Paschal Triduum at the heart of the Catholic Church’s Liturgy and life. The title of this branch points both to the liturgical journey from the desert of Lent to the garden of Resurrection, but also to the Paschal journey from darkness to light.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Warman has recommended Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell.  This is one of Mrs Warman's favourite children’s books because it is really easy for all children to join in and understand. The story is simple and repetitive, which keeps children engaged, and Mrs Warman often uses sign language while reading it.  She loved and still loves reading it with her own children.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

This week are sharing a great resource for young children to help them develop their online safety awareness from Childnet.

The Smartie the Penguin stories are often shared in school with the children and can be great to share at home, where you can further talk about the content of them with your child. https://www.childnet.com/resources/smartie-the-penguin/

There are many great books for young children which explore a range of online safety themes.  Below are the book covers and links to YouTube videos with a read aloud of the books. We always recommend that you check the links and watch/read the books yourself before watching with your child so that you cane decide if you feel the content is appropriate for your child and family.

Important - Parking and Safety Near School Area

Please also use the school path to enter/exit the school.  For safety reasons, please do not walk through the staff car park.  The staff car park should not be used as a walkway or an area for children to play.

Nursery parents using the back gate, please do not park in front of the garages or block any vehicles.

Thank you for your support.
