Weekly Message from Mrs Warren

Last Saturday, we enjoyed a wonderful CAFOD walk, bringing together families, children and staff in a spirit of community and generosity. It was lovely to see so many of you supporting such an important cause.

This week, our Nursery children also made a special visit to the church alongside their parents, where they listened to the Easter story and reflected on its meaning. In addition, Mrs Cassar led the Stations of the Cross with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 as part of our journey through Lent, helping the children to deepen their understanding of this important time in the liturgical year.

In today’s Celebration Assembly, the children proudly shared their learning from the week. We heard about their work on writing “losing tales,” ordering numbers and developing their skills in instruction writing. It was a joy to celebrate their achievements together.

Next week is our final week before the end of term and we are looking forward to welcoming parents into school for our KS1 Passion Play, as well as Parents’ Evening on Wednesday.

A reminder that school will finish at 1:15pm on Friday for the end of term.

Have a lovely weekend.

Blessings.

Mrs Warren

Meningitus Outbreak

The outbreak of meningitis in Kent has been heavily covered in the news and may be causing anxiety in Essex.  The public health team at Essex County Council have said that there is no increased risk to anyone in Essex unless they have a direct link to a case of meningitis in the Kent outbreak and been contacted by the UK Health Security Agency.  Simply being a contact of a person with a direct link does not increase the risk.  If you would like to know more about the outbreak and how it is managed there is an update on the UK Health Securities webpage.  If you would like to know more about meningitis and how to spot it the NHS webpages give good advice.

Branch 4 - Desert to Garden

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Desert to Garden. For this, the children will learn that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day’ (1 Cor 15:3).

In this branch, pupils will study the season of Lent and its culmination in the events of Holy Week. They will learn about the Paschal Triduum at the heart of the Catholic Church’s Liturgy and life. The title of this branch points both to the liturgical journey from the desert of Lent to the garden of Resurrection, but also to the Paschal journey from darkness to light.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Bond has recommended The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak. It is a hilarious reminder that words alone can be wildly entertaining.  It makes reading out loud an unforgettable experience. Kids love the silliness, adults love the cleverness—and everyone ends up laughing.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

This week we are sharing a great resource for young children to help them develop their online safety awareness from Childnet.

The Smartie the Penguin stories are often shared in school with the children and can be great to share at home, where you can further talk about the content of them with your child. https://www.childnet.com/resources/smartie-the-penguin/

There are many great books for young children which explore a range of online safety themes.  Below are the book covers and links to YouTube videos with a read aloud of the books. We always recommend that you check the links and watch/read the books yourself before watching with your child so that you can decide if you feel the content is appropriate for your child and family.
