Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

It is amazing that we have now come to the end of our second term for this academic year. The run up to the Easter Holidays has been very busy with the Passion Play and Parents Evening and I want to take this opportunity to thank staff for all of their hard work during this busy period.

Key Stage 1 moved us all with their beautiful performance of the Passion Play on Wednesday afternoon, reminding us of the sacrifice that Jesus made on Good Friday.  Easter is the key focus of the Christian faith and watching small children share the events of Holy Week in its simplest form, moves me each year.

We also say goodbye to Miss Dorrington and Mrs Nunn.  We thank them for their support during their time with us and wish them well in the future.

I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter with your families. I thank you all for the support you have given the school and nursery over this term.

Branch 4 - Desert to Garden

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Desert to Garden. For this, the children will learn that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day’ (1 Cor 15:3).

In this branch, pupils will study the season of Lent and its culmination in the events of Holy Week. They will learn about the Paschal Triduum at the heart of the Catholic Church’s Liturgy and life. The title of this branch points both to the liturgical journey from the desert of Lent to the garden of Resurrection, but also to the Paschal journey from darkness to light.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Nutley has recommended 'Shh! We have a plan' by Chris Haughton. It's a really entertaining story with repeated phrases that children can quickly pick up and join in with. It is a very open ended book and offers lots of opportunities for story talk and extending children’s language skills.

As part of our Weather and Seasons topic and Science Week, Year 1 created their own rain cloud in a glass Watching the colours fall through like rain had everyone completely fascinated.
