Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

What a busy and joy-filled week we’ve had in school! Thank you to all the parents who attended our Behaviour and Relationships Policy meeting—it was wonderful to share our approach with you and to work together to support our children.

Our PTA hosted a lovely coffee morning, and with their help we have also begun our Christmas preparations. A special thank you to the parents and PTA members who have started decorating our school hall so beautifully as we enter the season of Advent. We are truly blessed with such a generous and supportive school community.

Year 2 enjoyed an exciting trip to Braintree Museum, where they experienced what life was like in a Victorian classroom. Meanwhile, our EYFS children have been hard at work practising for their Nativity next week, and both Nursery and Reception had a magical visit to Eastgate’s Santa’s Grotto.  Thank you to all families who joined us for this festive trip.

Next week promises to be equally busy as we continue our Advent journey and build towards the festive celebrations. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

School Crossing Patrol Service – IMPORTANT Safety Message

Please know that when we have low sun shining down on the crossing site, drivers do not always see the patrol and crossing pedestrians. Low sun creates a blind spot due to glare, which is intense light that can temporarily blind a driver and obscure vision, making it difficult to see the road, other vehicles, and pedestrians.  The patrols Hi-Viz can reflect as a starburst to a driver temporarily blinded by the sun’s rays. This week has been particularly bad with many drivers pulling up sharp at the crossing site or driving through whilst the patrol is in the road.

I have advised the patrol and relief patrols to hold back pedestrians until they can safely stop the drivers who are in the suns direct path. At times this may mean waiting a few more seconds until the patrols feels it is safe for them to enter the road. Please be patient and comply with the patrols decision to wait and ensure the vehicles are aware of the patrols presence so they can keep both themself safe and the pupils safe on their journeys to and from school. Thank you.

Prophecy and Promise - Branch 2

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Prophecy and Promise.

In this branch, pupils will explore the Christian understanding of the teaching of the prophets as they point to the fulfilment of God’s promise in a messiah, Jesus Christ. They will explore the expectant waiting for the Messiah through the Advent season and how this speaks to Christians today as they wait for Christ. Pupils will encounter the story of the nativity of Jesus and the mystery of the incarnation.

Hail Mary, (Lift your right hand pointing to the sky.)

Full of grace, (Lift your left hand pointing to the sky.)

The Lord is with you. (Bring your hands down folded near your heart.)

Blessed are you among women, (Take your right hand and sweep it across your body pointing to all the girls in the group around you.)

And blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. (Pretend you are rocking a baby in your arms.)

Holy Mary, (Lift your right hand pointing to the sky.)

Mother of God, (Lift your left hand pointing to the sky.)

Pray for us sinners, (Bring your hands down folded near your heart.)

Now (Point down to the ground with both hands.)

And at the hour of our death. (Point to a pretend watch on your wrist.)

Amen. (Bring hands together folded near your heart.)

Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

Roblox update:

What’s changing?

The platform Roblox is introducing a new feature requiring users to undergo a facial age-check.

Users who complete the process will be placed into age groups: under nine, 9 to 12, 13 to 15, 16 to 17, 18 to 20 and 21+.

Players can only chat with others in similar age ranges, unless they add someone as a "trusted connection", which is a feature for people they know.

Under-13s will still be blocked from private messages and certain chats unless a parent gives permission.

Why has this been introduced?

The move is aimed at strengthening safety and age-appropriate interactions online. It reflects growing concerns around children’s safety on social-chat enabled platforms.

What you can do as a parent:

  • Have a conversation with your child about why this change is happening and what it means for safe online behaviour.
  • Review your child’s account settings in Roblox: check chat permissions, ensure their account age is set correctly, and monitor who they chat with.
  • Encourage the use of platform safety features (such as chat filters, reporting/blocking unwanted contact) and keep open communication about their online experiences.
  • Stay informed about how your child uses apps and games: this change is one more prompt to revisit those discussions.
