Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

The new term has started well, with the children settling back into their routines.  On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of Epiphany.  We had an assembly to help the children understand the significance of this Holy day and how God sent his son, Jesus, into the world so that everyone, everywhere might know of God’s great love for all his children.

Next week Reception will begin to come into school on their own. They are ready for this next independent step and I ask parents to support us with this.

Please make sure you familiarise yourselves with the many events happening over the coming weeks and we look forward to a successful term ahead.

Wishing you a lovely weekend with your families.

Staffing:

We warmly welcome Miss King to our team, who will be teaching in Year 1. Miss King is a trainee teacher who will be working closely with our experienced staff to support the learning and development of our Kingfisher children. She is enthusiastic, dedicated, and eager to bring creativity and energy to the classroom. We are delighted to have her join our school community and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our children’s learning journey.

Galilee to Jerusalem - Branch 3

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Galilee to Jerusalem.

‘God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known’ (Jn 1:18).

In this branch, pupils across the school will experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God. They will learn about the life of Jesus and his revelation of the Kingdom of God through parables, encounters, miracles, and teachings.

They will learn about the call of the disciples and the nature of being a follower of Jesus.

Suggested Home Learning Ideas to support

Religious Education

Week 1

Nursery

Think about how God sent a new star to lead the Wise Men to the baby Jesus. Go outside in the dark on a clear night and point to the stars together.  Say a pray together.

Reception

Explore the journey the Wise Men took using dolls, figures or playdough at home.

Year 1

Take part in a Candlemas liturgy eg Ep20: The Presentation of the Lord — The Mark 10 Mission and join in with the prayer and song.

Year 2

How can you be a light for the world like Jesus?  Choose to do something helpful at home for a member of your family.

Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps families share the Sunday Gospel together.  We encourage you to spend a little time together each week reading and talking about the Wednesday Word as a family.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Scorey has recommended 'The Tiger who came to tea'.

It is a wonderful story that Mrs Scorey remembers from her own childhood. The illustrations are amazing and the whole idea of a tiger popping in and eating all your food really appeals to the children.  If you haven't read it already, give it a read.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

Our focus as we start a new term is on reporting.  It is important that online concerns and problems are reported as these reports can build a bigger picture to be investigated.

Reports should be made to CEOP which is part of the  National Crime Agency.

https://www.ceop.police.uk/Safety-Centre/

For parents and carers there is an abundance of information and advice on keeping your child safe online. Visit the CEOP advice page here: https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/parents/Listing/?cat=&ref=4765#mMain

The CEOP Education team is part of the National Crime Agency. They run a national online safety education programme, which provides training, resources and information for children and young people, their families and professionals who work with them.

CEOP have a dedicated website that is a part of the programme for 4-7 year olds. The characters on this website also feature in Jessie & Friends, a three episode animated series for 4-7 year olds which are used in school.

On this dedicated website children aged 4-7 can explore games and videos which help them understand how to keep safe online, appropriate for their age. https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/4_7/
