Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

We have had a wonderfully busy and joyful start to the term. This week saw the launch of Rock Steady music lessons, which have already been met with great excitement from the children. There is still time for parents to sign up if you would like your child to take part.

As part of our Year of Reading, we continue to encourage all parents to read regularly with their children and to help nurture a lifelong love of books. Sharing stories together at home makes such a powerful difference to children’s confidence, imagination and learning.  Remember to engage in our phonics virtual classrooms, use the eBook library and sign your children's reading records.

Today we were delighted to welcome Fr Albert, who visited all of our classes and introduced himself and his work to the children. Our youngest learners in Cygnets especially enjoyed meeting him for the first time.

Looking ahead to next week, we are very much looking forward to celebrating the Feast Day of St Anne Line, a special occasion in our school calendar. We are also excited that our Starstruck Club will be travelling to London to see Hercules – a truly memorable experience for the children involved.

Finally, we are placing a big focus on handwriting across the school and the use of the Perfect Pencil Grip. When your children are writing at home, please help us by encouraging them to hold their pencil correctly to support neat, confident writing.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Galilee to Jerusalem - Branch 3

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Galilee to Jerusalem.

‘God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known’ (Jn 1:18).

In this branch, pupils across the school will experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God. They will learn about the life of Jesus and his revelation of the Kingdom of God through parables, encounters, miracles, and teachings.

They will learn about the call of the disciples and the nature of being a follower of Jesus.

Suggested Home Learning Ideas to support

Religious Education

Week 3

Nursery

Make a gift of praise for God. Gift wrap a small box and tie a bright ribbon around it and gift wrap it so it looks like a present.

Reception

Read Jesus blesses the little children (Mk 10:13-16).  Think about how the children felt before and after meeting Jesus.

Year 1

Make a Good News card to share the Good News of God’s love.

Year 2

Introduce the children to the Act of Contrition/Act of Sorrow - a special prayer that Catholics say to ask God for forgiveness.  What can you say sorry for?

Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps families share the Sunday Gospel together.  We encourage you to spend a little time together each week reading and talking about the Wednesday Word as a family.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Wootton has recommended 'On the Way Home', written by Jill Murphy.  This is a simple, humorous book, perfect for young readers, especially for sparking conversations about truth, creativity, and storytelling.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun
