Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

The children have just returned from a beautiful mass with the Junior school to celebrate the Feast of St Anne Line.  She is our patron saint and it was lovely to see both schools coming together to honour her.  She lived a devout life, helping priests to continue to say mass even when it was a crime punishable by death.  She was dedicated to the Holy Church in Rome.  Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who stood firm in their beliefs, inspiring Catholics to live boldly in their own faith.  It is a result of martyrs like her that schools like ours exist today.

Last night we took a group of children to The Theatre Royal in Drury Lane to see Hercules and it was fantastic ! This is our termly London Theatre trip for the Starstruck Club. If your child currently does not attend but has a love of musical theatre, please do sign them up.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Galilee to Jerusalem - Branch 3

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Galilee to Jerusalem.

‘God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known’ (Jn 1:18).

In this branch, pupils across the school will experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God. They will learn about the life of Jesus and his revelation of the Kingdom of God through parables, encounters, miracles, and teachings.

They will learn about the call of the disciples and the nature of being a follower of Jesus.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Davis has recommended 'The Twits' written by Roald Dahl, recommended for children age 6 upwards.   The book is about Mr and Mrs Twit who have unfortunately forgotten how to be kind.  Mrs Davis enjoyed the silliness of the book.

Mrs Davis also recommends 'Skellig' written by David Almond for children aged 9 -11. The main character is Michael.  His sister is unwell and he discovers a mysterious kind creature who needs his help.  Michael and his friend nurse it well while discovering the magic of hope and the power of love to heal.  It was the first book Mrs Davis read that kept her in suspense, and she liked the descriptive phrases.  She enjoyed the book so much that she based some of her GCSE English writing around it.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun
