Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

We were delighted to continue our St Anne Line Feast Day celebrations this week, with biscuits enjoyed by all the children and a special assembly. Also on Monday, we celebrated Candlemas, and this week the children have been learning about the meaning of Candlemas in their RE lessons, exploring its importance in the Church calendar.

Many thanks to all who joined the PTA meeting this week, where they spoke about preparations for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Easter – thank you to the PTA for all their hard work and enthusiasm.  More information will follow shortly.

Next week we will be marking Safer Internet Day and Children’s Mental Health Week, with activities and discussions to help support children’s wellbeing and online safety.

Please continue reading at home with your child. Mrs Warren has sent out new phonics QR codes, and as this is our Year of Reading, we would love families to spend time visiting the library and sharing books together. Reading regularly at home makes a huge difference.

Next week, Mrs Warren will also be sending out some exciting news about our upcoming World Book Day celebrations in March – watch this space!

We look forward to one final week at school before half term and thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Blessings.

Headteacher's Award

Arulini (Robins) won the Headteacher’s Award this week for her kindness.  Mrs Clayton was delighted to see Arulini helping a friend with their coat zip. Well done.

Galilee to Jerusalem - Branch 3

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Galilee to Jerusalem.

‘God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known’ (Jn 1:18).

In this branch, pupils across the school will experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God. They will learn about the life of Jesus and his revelation of the Kingdom of God through parables, encounters, miracles, and teachings.

They will learn about the call of the disciples and the nature of being a follower of Jesus.

Week 5

Nursery

Share the story of the feeding of the 5000 with the children and compare it with ‘The Boy Who Shared His Sandwich’ by Steph Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV8O_uctBhE.  Talk about what this means and what we can do for others.

Reception

Read the Feeding of 5000 (Jn 6:1-14)·  Thank God for giving you your favourite food.

Year 1

Think about someone who might be in darkness (someone sad, lonely, ill, worried, angry). Pray for them.

Year 2

Read or watch the calming of the storm together as a family.  Think about how miracles are an outward sign of the power of God.

Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps families share the Sunday Gospel together.  We encourage you to spend a little time together each week reading and talking about the Wednesday Word as a family.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Joseph has recommended 'Monkey Puzzle' written by Julia Donaldson.  This is Miss Joseph’s favourite book because it is funny. She likes the pictures and how everyone helps the monkey to find his mum. It reminds Miss Joseph how Jesus teaches us to help others.  This book is suitable for all ages and particularly recommended for ages 3-6 years.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

This week we are sharing the NSPCC website which provides online safety advice for parents.   https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety

Many of us see our online lives and offline lives as different.

But for children growing up with technology and the internet, there isn’t a difference – online life and offline life is just life.

Technology can move at an extraordinarily fast pace. So it can be difficult to know how to start talking to your child about what they’re doing online, who they might be speaking to or discussing the potential risks and issues.
