Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

This has been a very busy half term and the staff and children have worked hard through the rain and cold of January to achieve great things in their learning. As we reach the half way point of the academic year I have been looking carefully at how the children are developing and moving forward in their learning.  It has been a joy to see how much progress there has been since September.  I wanted to thank all of the staff for their hard work so far this year and you as parents for supporting us as always in our endeavour to help the children to reach their potential.  As an infant school we believe that play is important to young children's development so next half term Mrs Davis is going to unveil an exciting new system for playtimes that will give all the children an opportunity to explore their creative and physical development while having fun with their friends. I look forward to telling you more about this next term.  I wish you all a very happy half term and I hope you can wrap up and get out in the fresh air.

Galilee to Jerusalem - Branch 3

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Galilee to Jerusalem.

‘God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known’ (Jn 1:18).

In this branch, pupils across the school will experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God. They will learn about the life of Jesus and his revelation of the Kingdom of God through parables, encounters, miracles, and teachings.

They will learn about the call of the disciples and the nature of being a follower of Jesus.

Week 6

Nursery

We can tell God how wonderful we think He is by giving glory to Him. This means telling Him how wonderful He is when we talk to Him in our prayers. A special prayer we could say is the glory be.  Say this special prayer together:

Reception

Year 1

Read from the Bible together: Little children (Lk 18:15-17).  Tell the story of Jesus blessing the children and make this together:

Year 2

Over dinner, discuss how you know that God loves you and how you think you can show love to someone else. What does Jesus teach us about loving others?  Say a prayer for your family and friends.

Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps families share the Sunday Gospel together.  We encourage you to spend a little time together each week reading and talking about the Wednesday Word as a family.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Warren has recommended 'The Enchanted Wood', part of the Magic Faraway Tree Collection by Enid Blyton.  This story was Mrs Warren's eldest child's favourite book when she was aged 6.  It is a classic fantasy adventure so she would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure and curious characters.  It is a lovely story to read together and Mrs Warren thinks it really develops children's imaginations and creative writing.

Today our whole school gathered for a beautiful Crib Service. As teachers read the Nativity story, the children reverently brought forward the figures of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, angels and wise men to complete our school crib. Each character placed at the crib reminded us of the joy, peace and hope that Christ's birth brings to our school community. Thank you to our pupils, and staff for sharing in this special moment of prayer and preparation. Year 2 Maths Fun! Last week we played The Exchange Game as part of our work on addition with exchange. The children learnt that ten ones is equal to one ten, and had great fun practising this through our class "shop"! Mrs Marchant was our wonderful shopkeeper, and the children loved exchanging their ten ones for one ten. Such a hands-on way to build confidence with place value! #Year2 #MathsInAction #PlaceValue #HandsOnLearning #PrimaryMaths #LearningIsFun

Online Safety Zone

Every year the UK Safer Internet Centre hosts Safer Internet Day, which we have taken part in for over 10 years now!

https://saferinternet.org.uk/

On Tuesday 10th of February 2026, we celebrated Safer Internet Day.

Safer Internet Day 2026 – Exploring AI

This year for Safer Internet Day, our infant school learned about the theme of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and how it is part of the online world around us. We explored how AI is when computers and technology can “think” and help us do things — such as suggesting videos, answering questions, or helping us learn new skills.

We talked with the children about how AI can be helpful, but also why it is important to ask questions, think carefully about what we see online, and always speak to a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right. Through stories and simple activities, we explored how to use technology safely, kindly, and responsibly.

By introducing AI in a fun and age-appropriate way, we helped our children become more confident, curious, and safe digital learners.
