Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Welcome to our new style newsletter.  There will be a special end of term newsletter on Friday.  Going forward, email will be our primary means of contact as we work towards being more eco-friendly and paperless.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout a joyful and eventful few weeks. It was wonderful to see so many families at our Family Summer BBQ—a true celebration of our school community.  I would like to personally thank the PTA for their hard work.  The children have also enjoyed some exciting learning beyond the classroom: Year 2’s trip to Colchester was full of discovery, and Reception had a fantastic time at Chalkwell Beach. We were delighted to welcome families to Cygnets Stay and Play, and it was a proud moment to see our youngest pupils celebrated at their Graduation.

This week, the children enjoyed meeting their new teachers and exploring their new classrooms, helping them feel confident and excited for the year ahead.

Wishing you a good week.

Catholic Schools Citizenship Award 2025 - Oakley (Owls)

Oakley attended a special service at Brentwood Cathedral on Friday where he received the Citizenship Award, as nominated by our school staff.  Oakley is a thoughtful, kind and loving member of our school community.  He faces many challenges and, despite this, he arrives at school each day with a smile and determination.

Charity Week

Thank you to all the nursery parents/carers for your kind donations to the local Food Banks.

Reception have raised £150.04 for CAFOD

Year 1 have raised £88.45 for BCCS.

Year 2 have raised £83 for the Salvation Army

As a Catholic school, supporting our local community helps our students learn the importance of loving and serving others, just as Jesus taught us — to love our neighbours as ourselves.

School Attendance

The whole school's weekly attendance is 97.6%.

Class Highest: Wrens 100% and Robins 100%

Good attendance helps your child make the most of their learning and keeps them on track with their progress. Every day in school counts towards their success and confidence.

Family Summer BBQ - Friday 11th July

We also raised £440 on the BBQ food, thank you so much for supporting this event. A big thank you to the PTA for all their hard work for this event and throughout the year.  Also a special thanks to Catherine’s niece Marley and nephew Bailey for their help on Friday with the face glitter, entertainment and tidying away.

What is the Summer Reading Challenge?

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays – and to enjoy reading anything they like! All children are invited to read books and/or complete reading-related activities, and collect rewards. It’s completely FREE to take part.

National Read Aloud

We are very excited to share that we have signed up to take part in the National Read Aloud where children can read books on a special app.  Please click on the link below.

Online Safety Zone

As the summer holidays begin, children often spend more time online—whether it’s playing games, watching videos, or chatting with friends. This break is a great opportunity for parents and carers to get involved in their child’s digital world and encourage safe, positive online habits.

Here are some simple ways to support your child online this summer:

  • Spend time online together: Visit their favourite websites and play their favourite games to show interest and stay informed about what they enjoy.

  • Have open conversations: Use this time to talk positively about the internet and how to stay safe.

  • Build trust: Regular, honest conversations can help your child feel confident to come to you if something online ever upsets them.
