Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Welcome back! It has been a great start to the summer term here at school, and it has been wonderful to see the children returning refreshed and ready to learn after the Easter break.

This week, our Early Years team took part in valuable training focused on how we can continue to develop and sustain our outstanding Nursery provision. We are always striving to give our youngest children the very best start, and this professional development is an important part of that commitment.

Our Year 1 and Year 2 children enjoyed a special visit to church to celebrate St Bernadette’s Feast Day. During this meaningful time together, Fr Albert spoke to the children, led them in prayer, and gave them a blessing. It was a lovely opportunity to deepen their understanding of faith and community.

Clubs for this term are now available to book, and we encourage families to sign up promptly to secure a place. There is a wide range of opportunities for the children to enjoy and develop new skills.

Looking ahead, we will be taking part in a PRO Strike event for the children next week. Further details will be shared in a letter coming home shortly.

We are also excited to support the Big Help Out on Saturday 25th April. We would love to welcome families to join us for the morning to help out around the school grounds—your support makes such a difference to our community.

Go for a family walk and look for items (e.g. something red, a leaf, a bird, a number). Add jogging between finds for extra movement.

ProStrike Football Fundraising Event - Tuesday 21 April

Our ProStrike Football Fundraising Event is next week!

Every pupil will take on the ProStrike Speed Challenge – testing the power of their strike against the inflatable ProStrike goal. Each child will come home with a certificate, and there are brilliant prizes to be won for fundraising efforts.

RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is To the Ends of the Earth.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children will look at the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will hear a simple version of the Pentecost and learn that the Holy Spirit is our friend who looks after us. They will also learn about our parish church.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 5 for Year 1 is for children to hear the story of the Road to Emmaus, the Ascension, and the story of Pentecost. They will complete an age-appropriate narrative cycle of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and encounter the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles and then the early Church. ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ (Mt 28:19)

Year 2

The theme for this term is Ascension, Pentecost and Conversion. The focus is on how people are changed by the Holy Spirit. Welcoming the Holy Spirit into our hearts invites conversion of the heart by receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allowing these to bear fruit in our lives. Children will explore how people are changed by the Holy Spirit through the examples of the apostles, St Paul and other saints and they will learn the names of the fruits of the Spirit.

Nursery:

Week 1 - Draw a happy picture of Jesus going up to be with God in heaven.

Reception:

Week 1 - Draw a picture of Jesus going back to his Father.

Year 1:

Week 1 - Share the event from Jesus’ life that means the most to you and your family and why.

Year 2:

Week 1 - Make a sign that says peace be with you.

The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps families share the Sunday Gospel together. We encourage you to spend a little time together each week reading and talking about the Wednesday Word as a family.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure. We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Syms has recommended 'Peace at Last' written by Jill Murphy. This is a funny story ideal for children in the Early Years.

Mr Bear can't sleep, and everything keeps him awake even outside in the garden. This book has great illustrations and is bright and colourful for little children to engage with.

'Peace at Last' was a great favourite of Mrs Syms, when she read it to her children thirty years ago.

It is now a favourite of her eighteen-month-old grandson, who often selects this book at bedtime. They have great fun joining in with all the sounds Mr Bear can hear.

We are inviting families to come into school between 10am and 12pm to help with keeping our grounds tidy (weather permitting).
