Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

It has been another busy and great week in school.

Our after-school clubs began this week with a fantastic uptake from pupils. Children have been enjoying Cooking, Football, Faith Explorers, Play and Lego Club, Music, Writing, Starstruck and Science Club, giving them wonderful opportunities to develop new skills and friendships.

We also celebrated Earth Day and St George’s Day, and pupils thoroughly enjoyed the Pro Strike event! Lunchtimes have also had a refresh, with new playground zones for construction, role play, writing, sport and other engaging activities.

Looking ahead to next week, we continue with the National Year of Reading, with this month’s theme being Reading Outdoors. Please keep an eye on Instagram for photos and do send in any pictures of your children enjoying reading outside at home too.

We are also looking forward to welcoming our MP for Basildon to visit the children and tour the school, and welcoming Year 1 parents to the Phonics Screening Check meeting with Mrs Warren.

Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you all a restful weekend.

   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is To the Ends of the Earth.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children will look at the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will hear a simple version of the Pentecost and learn that the Holy Spirit is our friend who looks after us.  They will also learn about our parish church.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 5 for Year 1 is for children to hear the story of the Road to Emmaus, the Ascension, and the story of Pentecost. They will complete an age-appropriate narrative cycle of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and encounter the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles and then the early Church.  ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ (Mt 28:19)

Year 2

The theme for this term is Ascension, Pentecost and Conversion.  The focus is on how people are changed by the Holy Spirit. Welcoming the Holy Spirit into our hearts invites conversion of the heart by receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allowing these to bear fruit in our lives. Children will explore how people are changed by the Holy Spirit through the examples of the apostles, St Paul and other saints and they will learn the names of the fruits of the Spirit.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Cassar has recommended 'Guess How Much I Love You' written by Sam McBratney.  This children’s picture book is about Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare comparing their love for one another.

The story explores a way of saying 'I love you' and is a timeless way to express love that’s simply too big to measure!

It is beautifully illustrated and can start conversations of how you could measure your love. It also brings back fond memories for Mrs Cassar of time shared reading together when her children were young.
