   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is To the Ends of the Earth.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children will look at the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will hear a simple version of the Pentecost and learn that the Holy Spirit is our friend who looks after us.  They will also learn about our parish church.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 5 for Year 1 is for children to hear the story of the Road to Emmaus, the Ascension, and the story of Pentecost. They will complete an age-appropriate narrative cycle of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and encounter the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles and then the early Church.  ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ (Mt 28:19)

Year 2

The theme for this term is Ascension, Pentecost and Conversion.  The focus is on how people are changed by the Holy Spirit. Welcoming the Holy Spirit into our hearts invites conversion of the heart by receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allowing these to bear fruit in our lives. Children will explore how people are changed by the Holy Spirit through the examples of the apostles, St Paul and other saints and they will learn the names of the fruits of the Spirit.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Plormel has recommended 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' written and illustrated by Eric Carle.  The plot follows a very hungry caterpillar that consumes a variety of foods before pupating and eventually turning into a beautiful butterfly.  Mrs Plormel has fond memories of reading this story to many children at St Anne Line over the years.

Crowning of Mary - Monday 11th of May 2026 (9am)

School Playground

We will be celebrating the month of May with our Crowning of Mary service on Monday 11th of May at 9am. We would like to invite families to share this special event with our children and staff, as we celebrate Mary, our patron.

Children are welcome to bring in flowers on this day to lay by Mary.

We do hope that we will be able to hold this event outside on the playground as it helps all of our children recognise how important and special Mary is to our school community. We warmly welcome you to this service.

In the event of bad weather, we will hold the event within the school hall. Sadly, we do not have enough room to welcome families if this is the case.

The Big Help Out – Saturday 16 May 2026 (10am-12pm)

Our Big Help Out will take place on Saturday 16th of May.  We would love to invite families to come into school and help with keeping our grounds looking lovely for the summer.  If you are able to come along, please bring your gardening gloves and tools along with any kind plant donations. There will be a bacon sandwich and cup of tea for all the volunteers.  This is a great opportunity for families to spend time together outside in the fresh air. Please email office@salinf.org if you are able to help. Many thanks for your support.

Tickets can also be purchased on ParentPay

In Year 2, the children explored fractions by sorting pictures into two groups: those that showed a third and those that did not. They confidently used key vocabulary like "equal parts" to explain their reasoninggreat mathematical thinking in action! #ks1maths #ncetm #whiterosemaths
