Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Dear Parents and Carers,

There is lots to celebrate in school this week. Firstly, we have 100% statutory attendance today which is amazing!  We are well above the National average and this is down to the fantastic partnership that we have between school and home. I am so grateful for your support in this area. Let's keep it up as we are trying to reach 98% for this year. This is very ambitious but I think we can do it!

Today we have also welcomed many schools to our fantastic Outdoor Provision Roadshow. We hosted this event with the Early Excellence Centre and it is an opportunity for other schools to come and access new research and training on the importance of outdoor play and learning for young children.

Finally, I do hope to see many of you at our Big Help Out tomorrow morning from 10am-12pm.  This is always a lovely event, where we come together in school as a community to tidy up the grounds, planting and repairing the site for the children to use for the summer.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is To the Ends of the Earth.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children will look at the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will hear a simple version of the Pentecost and learn that the Holy Spirit is our friend who looks after us.  They will also learn about our parish church.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 5 for Year 1 is for children to hear the story of the Road to Emmaus, the Ascension, and the story of Pentecost. They will complete an age-appropriate narrative cycle of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and encounter the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles and then the early Church.  ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ (Mt 28:19)

Year 2

The theme for this term is Ascension, Pentecost and Conversion.  The focus is on how people are changed by the Holy Spirit. Welcoming the Holy Spirit into our hearts invites conversion of the heart by receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allowing these to bear fruit in our lives. Children will explore how people are changed by the Holy Spirit through the examples of the apostles, St Paul and other saints and they will learn the names of the fruits of the Spirit.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Bruce has recommended 'The Colour Monster', written by Anna Llenas which is a key text within the EYFS curriculum that supports children in developing and understanding of their emotions.

It is wonderful to see the children engage with this story in nursery and be able to talk about their different feelings to make connections between the core colours and their own emotions.

The Big Help Out – Tomorrow - Saturday 16 May 2026 (10am-12pm)

Our Big Help Out will take place tomorrow, Saturday 16th of May.  We would love to invite families to come into school and help with keeping our grounds looking lovely for the summer.  If you are able to come along, please bring your gardening gloves and tools along with any kind plant donations. There will be a bacon sandwich and cup of tea for all the volunteers.  This is a great opportunity for families to spend time together outside in the fresh air. Please email office@salinf.org if you are able to help. Many thanks for your support.

Tickets can also be purchased on ParentPay

Today in Year 1 we stepped back in time at Mountfitchet Castle! We explored what life was like in a medieval Motte and Bailey castle, learned about kings and queens, and discovered how castles kept people safe long ago. The children loved meeting the animals, exploring the wooden fortifications, and imagining life as brave knights and royalty! #Year1 #HistoryLearning #MountfitchetCastle #KingsAndCastles #schooltrip
