Dear God,

Thank you for bringing us nature that we enjoy and fruit, flowers, trees and animals. Some animals guide and assist us.

Amen

   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is To the Ends of the Earth.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children will look at the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will hear a simple version of the Pentecost and learn that the Holy Spirit is our friend who looks after us.  They will also learn about our parish church.

Year 1

The focus of this branch 5 for Year 1 is for children to hear the story of the Road to Emmaus, the Ascension, and the story of Pentecost. They will complete an age-appropriate narrative cycle of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and encounter the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles and then the early Church.  ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ (Mt 28:19)

Year 2

The theme for this term is Ascension, Pentecost and Conversion.  The focus is on how people are changed by the Holy Spirit. Welcoming the Holy Spirit into our hearts invites conversion of the heart by receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit and allowing these to bear fruit in our lives. Children will explore how people are changed by the Holy Spirit through the examples of the apostles, St Paul and other saints and they will learn the names of the fruits of the Spirit.

Suggested Home Learning Ideas to support  Religious Education

Nursery:

Week 6 - Draw or paint the Holy Spirit as a dove, flame, or bright light.

Reception:

Week 6 - Draw a picture of the Holy Spirit.

Year 1:

Week 6 - Pentecost is the Church’s birthday so celebrate it together as a family.

Year 2:

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Daley has recommended 'The Gruffalo', which she used to read to her children when they were young.  This book is written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.  It is a clever and charming tale about a little mouse who scares away other animals by inventing a frightening creature called the Gruffalo, only to discover that the Gruffalo is actually real.

What made the book so special is its catchy rhythm and repetition, which made reading aloud fun and memorable. Miss Daley's children loved joining in with the familiar lines and looking at the colourful pictures. It is a story full of humour, imagination, and gentle lessons about courage and quick thinking.

Miss Daley now reads the story to her class, who also love joining in with the repeated phrases and listening to the exciting adventure. Even after reading it many times, it has remained one of Miss Daley's favourite children’s books.

Tickets can also be purchased on ParentPay

Happy National Numeracy Day! We've had such a lovely day celebrating all things maths! The children came dressed up and explored how maths is used in real life and in different careers. We also became maths investigators for the day with some fun zoo animal challenges How many children could fit inside an elephant's footprint? Can we jump as far as a kangaroo? Which animal is the tallest? Who can measure the longest leap? So much fun, learning and teamwork all while building confidence with numbers! #nationalnumeracyday
