Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children all looked wonderful in their pyjamas and have raised a fantastic amount of money for the BookTrust. This incredible charity helps disadvantaged children across the country gain access to books and develop a love of reading.

They also made a brilliant effort for the World Cup launch and thoroughly enjoyed parading around the hall for our own version of the opening ceremony.

Thank you so much for supporting all of the activities we run in school. We always try to provide a wide range of opportunities for the children to take part in, but we know that keeping up with everything can take a lot of effort!

The last few weeks of term are always very busy, so please keep an eye on the newsletter for details of all the upcoming events.

I hope you have a lovely weekend with your families.

   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Dialogue and Encounter.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children understand how to listen when others speak, develop attitudes of respect, and embrace similarities and differences. Children begin to understand what it means to be a good neighbour and speak about their experiences and understandings of religion and spirituality in a local context as part of the community they encounter each day. In learning about Jesus, children could begin to understand that Jesus lived in the past in a place called Nazareth in Palestine.

Year 1

‘For “In him we live and move and have our being”’ (Acts 17:28).

In this branch the starting point for dialogue in a Catholic school is understanding some things about the Catholic Church. For younger pupils, this begins with concrete experiences, meeting Christians from the local parish, including the parish priest where possible, and understanding what being a Christian means to them and how they live their lives. Where possible, pupils could also visit their local parish church to understand the building as a place where Catholics gather to celebrate their love of Christ in the church’s liturgies. Pupils begin learning about Judaism through understanding the Jewish belief in one God and that they have a sacred text, the Torah.

Year 2

In the dialogue dimension of this branch, pupils will begin by studying the parable of the Good Samaritan which Jesus told in answer to the question, ‘Who is my neighbour?’. Jesus concludes the parable by saying: “Go and do likewise” (Lk 10:37). In other words, he challenges us to put aside all differences and, in the face of suffering, to draw near to others with no questions asked’. Pupils will think about what this means in the community where they live and look at how Christians work together to support their local community, for example, food bank initiatives or care for refugees.  In the encounter part of this branch, pupils will learn more about Judaism as part of the religious education curriculum.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Miss Bond has recommended Oh Dear! by Rod Campbell.

This is one of Miss Bond's favourite books to share with young children and she loves how interactive and engaging it is.

As Buster visits different places on the farm in search of eggs, children can lift the flaps to discover what animal is hiding underneath. Miss Bond finds that children really enjoy the anticipation and excitement of finding out what is behind each flap, and they quickly become involved in the story.

Miss Bond particularly likes the repetitive language and simple storyline, which helps young children to join in.  The familiar farm setting and animals provide plenty of opportunities for conversation and vocabulary development.

Miss Bond would highly recommend Oh Dear! to parents looking for an enjoyable book to read together at home. It is a story that encourages interaction, curiosity, and a love of reading, and it never fails to capture children's attention.

Happy National Numeracy Day! We've had such a lovely day celebrating all things maths! The children came dressed up and explored how maths is used in real life and in different careers. We also became maths investigators for the day with some fun zoo animal challenges How many children could fit inside an elephant's footprint? Can we jump as far as a kangaroo? Which animal is the tallest? Who can measure the longest leap? So much fun, learning and teamwork all while building confidence with numbers! #nationalnumeracyday

Noticeboard:

Important - Sun Cream/Sun Hats

As the warm weather is expected to return next week, please ensure you apply an all day sun cream to your child before they come to school/nursery.  Sun cream will not be topped up during the day for Year 1 and Year 2 children, therefore it is most important that sun cream has been applied before the children come to school.  All day long lasting sun cream formulas are designed to provide 8-12 hours of protection covering the duration of the school day.

Sun cream will be applied to Reception and Nursery children during the day as they are outside more often.

Please also ensure your child has a sun hat (named).  Nursery children will need to have a sun hat that can stay in nursery.

Thank you for your support.
