Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Dear Parents and Carers,

I wanted to thank you all so much for your support over the last few days during this very hot weather. I know that this has proved challenging for some of you, juggling work and childcare.

This week I had the pleasure of attending the Joint Schools Music Festival with some of our Year 2 children. They performed beautifully and really made us proud. They are all now busy preparing for their Leavers Assembly, which will take place on Friday the 17th of July. The next three weeks are extremely busy, so please do keep an eye on what's going on each day.

I look forward to seeing lots of you at Sports Day on Wednesday morning.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Pyjamarama Day - Friday 12 June

Thank you for supporting our recent Pyjamarama Day.  Your kind donations helped us to raise £78 which has been forwarded to BookTrust.

Mrs Davis's Weekly Sports Challenge

World Cup Challenge

This week we are carrying on with our challenge from last week.  Please create a poster for one of the World Cup countries.  Show ideas on how the people in these countries greet each other and list their national dishes.  Anyone who creates a poster will receive a certificate from Mrs Davis.

School Attendance

The whole school's weekly attendance is 95.4%

Class Highest: Sparrows 97.3%

Good attendance helps your child make the most of their learning and keeps them on track with their progress. Every day in school counts towards their success and confidence.

   RE Newsletter

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Dialogue and Encounter.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children understand how to listen when others speak, develop attitudes of respect, and embrace similarities and differences. Children begin to understand what it means to be a good neighbour and speak about their experiences and understandings of religion and spirituality in a local context as part of the community they encounter each day. In learning about Jesus, children could begin to understand that Jesus lived in the past in a place called Nazareth in Palestine.

Year 1

‘For “In him we live and move and have our being”’ (Acts 17:28).

In this branch the starting point for dialogue in a Catholic school is understanding some things about the Catholic Church. For younger pupils, this begins with concrete experiences, meeting Christians from the local parish, including the parish priest where possible, and understanding what being a Christian means to them and how they live their lives. Where possible, pupils could also visit their local parish church to understand the building as a place where Catholics gather to celebrate their love of Christ in the church’s liturgies. Pupils begin learning about Judaism through understanding the Jewish belief in one God and that they have a sacred text, the Torah.

Year 2

In the dialogue dimension of this branch, pupils will begin by studying the parable of the Good Samaritan which Jesus told in answer to the question, ‘Who is my neighbour?’. Jesus concludes the parable by saying: “Go and do likewise” (Lk 10:37). In other words, he challenges us to put aside all differences and, in the face of suffering, to draw near to others with no questions asked’. Pupils will think about what this means in the community where they live and look at how Christians work together to support their local community, for example, food bank initiatives or care for refugees.  In the encounter part of this branch, pupils will learn more about Judaism as part of the religious education curriculum.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Buklow has recommended The Six Bullerby Children by Astrid Lindgren.

This is a charming book about friendship, family, and happiness coming from simple things rather than extraordinary events.  The book is a warm, gentle children's classic set in a tiny Swedish village.

This book is very special to Mrs Buklow as she remembers reading it as a child and also enjoyed reading it to her own children.

Happy National Numeracy Day! We've had such a lovely day celebrating all things maths! The children came dressed up and explored how maths is used in real life and in different careers. We also became maths investigators for the day with some fun zoo animal challenges How many children could fit inside an elephant's footprint? Can we jump as far as a kangaroo? Which animal is the tallest? Who can measure the longest leap? So much fun, learning and teamwork all while building confidence with numbers! #nationalnumeracyday

Last week we were privileged to host the Early Excellence Outdoor Roadshow - discovering how to strengthen the impact of our outdoor learning environment. It was a brilliant opportunity to see the expertise of Early Excellence in action, exploring how thoughtfully designed outdoor environments can deepen children's learning, curiosity, and independence. A huge thank you to Early Excellence for leading such an inspiring session, and to all the leaders and teachers who joined us for the rich professional discussions and shared practice. #EarlyExcellence #Roadshow #OutdoorProvision #OutdoorLearning #EarlyYears
