Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Dear Parents and Carers,

Family events are at the heart of our school community and over these weeks we have our most special ones.

The week started with a lovely outdoor assembly celebrating the Feast of St Peter and St Paul.

Transition day went very well and all the children enjoyed their time in their new classes and meeting their new teachers.

We have had a wonderful day at the beach today with our Early Years children and their families.  This is a special day when we take the opportunity to spend time together and celebrate on the beach.  It was lovely to see our families enjoying time with their children, watching them splashing about in the sea and playing on the sand.

We also had a wonderful Sports Day on Wednesday, and it was great to see so many of you attending.

We are looking forward to the Summer Family BBQ on Friday.

Please do keep an eye on our Instagram where there are lovely photos of these events.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Dialogue and Encounter.

Reception

In this branch for Reception, children understand how to listen when others speak, develop attitudes of respect, and embrace similarities and differences. Children begin to understand what it means to be a good neighbour and speak about their experiences and understandings of religion and spirituality in a local context as part of the community they encounter each day. In learning about Jesus, children could begin to understand that Jesus lived in the past in a place called Nazareth in Palestine.

Year 1

‘For “In him we live and move and have our being”’ (Acts 17:28).

In this branch the starting point for dialogue in a Catholic school is understanding some things about the Catholic Church. For younger pupils, this begins with concrete experiences, meeting Christians from the local parish, including the parish priest where possible, and understanding what being a Christian means to them and how they live their lives. Where possible, pupils could also visit their local parish church to understand the building as a place where Catholics gather to celebrate their love of Christ in the church’s liturgies. Pupils begin learning about Judaism through understanding the Jewish belief in one God and that they have a sacred text, the Torah.

Year 2

In the dialogue dimension of this branch, pupils will begin by studying the parable of the Good Samaritan which Jesus told in answer to the question, ‘Who is my neighbour?’. Jesus concludes the parable by saying: “Go and do likewise” (Lk 10:37). In other words, he challenges us to put aside all differences and, in the face of suffering, to draw near to others with no questions asked’. Pupils will think about what this means in the community where they live and look at how Christians work together to support their local community, for example, food bank initiatives or care for refugees.  In the encounter part of this branch, pupils will learn more about Judaism as part of the religious education curriculum.

Recommended Reading Books

Our school staff have chosen their favourite books to recommend to children as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting reading for pleasure.  We hope your families will enjoy reading these books together.

This week Mrs Kapustka has recommended 'Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales'.

This was one of Mrs Kapustka's most precious books in her house when she was a little girl.

The stories use fantasy, talking objects and deep life lessons to show how different we all are.

This book includes a magical world of tales, both for children and adults.

Happy National Numeracy Day! We've had such a lovely day celebrating all things maths! The children came dressed up and explored how maths is used in real life and in different careers. We also became maths investigators for the day with some fun zoo animal challenges How many children could fit inside an elephant's footprint? Can we jump as far as a kangaroo? Which animal is the tallest? Who can measure the longest leap? So much fun, learning and teamwork all while building confidence with numbers! #nationalnumeracyday

Last week we were privileged to host the Early Excellence Outdoor Roadshow - discovering how to strengthen the impact of our outdoor learning environment. It was a brilliant opportunity to see the expertise of Early Excellence in action, exploring how thoughtfully designed outdoor environments can deepen children's learning, curiosity, and independence. A huge thank you to Early Excellence for leading such an inspiring session, and to all the leaders and teachers who joined us for the rich professional discussions and shared practice. #EarlyExcellence #Roadshow #OutdoorProvision #OutdoorLearning #EarlyYears

Online Safety Zone

Sit down together

For parents, the summer holidays are a great chance to sit down with your children. Together you can visit their favourite sites and play their favourite games, this is a great way to stay up to date with online lives and show them that you’re interested in what they are doing.

The holidays are also a good opportunity to have positive conversations about the internet, so if something ever does upset your child online they would feel more confident in confiding in you.  Our conversation starters are a great tool to help encourage an open dialogue with your child.

Talking about their time online

The holidays are also a good opportunity to talk to your children about their online friendships, the sites they use and encourage best practices online.  Why not:

  • Watch Red and Murphy talk to Freddie and Alisha about asking before they watch videos online

  • Read Digiduck’s Big Decision and help educate children aged 3 – 7 about how to be a good friend online

  • Read Hanni and the Magic Window together

Sharing holiday pictures

Some children may want to share photos and videos of what they are getting up to in their summer holidays online. Talk to your children about what types of photos are appropriate to share, and who they are okay to share with. Photos can hold clues that give away personal information. For example, if you share a selfie of you and friends, are there any landmarks or street signs that give away your location?

This is true for photos you might share of your children too! It’s always worth asking children if they are happy with an image you want to share online. Our Safer Internet Day research found that 2 in 5 (40%) of 8-17s said that in the last year their parents or carers have posted a photo of them that embarrassed them, rising from 34% of 8-12s to 46% of 13-17s.

Further information can be found here https://www.childnet.com/blog/staying-safe-online-this-summer-a-guide-for-your-family/

Wishing you all a fun, safe summer holiday.

The Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest annual reading initiative for children aged 4–11, run by The Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries across the country. It is a fantastic way to keep children reading for pleasure over the holidays, helping them maintain and build their reading confidence.

The launch of the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, starts tomorrow on Super Sign Up Saturday, 4th July!

This year’s theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates the magic of stories and music, inspiring children to explore, imagine, and have fun.

Storytime has partnered with The Reading Agency and Universal Music to create a very special, music-themed edition of Storytime, “Read to the Beat”, as a reward for children completing the Challenge. Over 750,000 copies of this edition will be distributed to libraries nationwide, ensuring every child who takes part receives a special memento packed with super stories, fun activities, and gorgeous illustrations.

Please sign up for the Challenge, either at your local library, or visit the website by clicking the button below.

Reminder

Important - Sun Cream/Sun Hats

As the warm weather is expected to continue next week, please ensure you apply an all day sun cream to your child before they come to school/nursery.  Sun cream will not be topped up during the day for Year 1 and Year 2 children, therefore it is most important that sun cream has been applied before the children come to school.  All day long lasting sun cream formulas are designed to provide 8-12 hours of protection covering the duration of the school day.

Sun cream will be applied to Reception and Nursery children during the day as they are outside more often.

Please also ensure your child has a sun hat (named).  Nursery children will need to have a sun hat that can stay in nursery.

Thank you for your support.
