Weekly Message from Mrs Clayton

Welcome back after the half-term break! It’s been lovely to see everyone return rested and ready for a busy and exciting few weeks ahead.

This week, our staff took part in the Christus Catholic Trust INSET day, working alongside colleagues from other Trust schools to continue developing our teaching and learning. It was a valuable opportunity to share ideas and strengthen our practice.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 joined together for a special Remembrance Assembly, reflecting beautifully on the importance of remembering those who have given so much for others. Year 1 and 2 also enjoyed visiting the church to celebrate the Feast of St Martin de Porres, one of our house saints, with a lovely Mass.

As Remembrance Sunday approaches, we encourage families who attend services at church or in the community to hold all those who serve in their prayers.

With Bonfire Night celebrations happening, please take care and stay safe if you’re attending any firework events this weekend.

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week (remember to wear odd socks on Monday!), and we’ll be marking it with activities and discussions across the school, reminding everyone that kindness and respect make our school a wonderful place to be.

Wishing you all a peaceful and safe weekend.

Staffing update

We are delighted to welcome back Miss McLoughlin to our teaching team on Fridays in Year 2 and a new member of staff to the Reception team, Mrs Nunn.  Both are very excited to be part of our school community and are already getting to know the children and families. We’re sure you’ll join us in giving them a very warm welcome!

Prophecy and Promise - Branch 2

This half-term, the theme for our Religious Education Curriculum Branch is Prophecy and Promise.

In this branch, pupils will explore the Christian understanding of the teaching of the prophets as they point to the fulfilment of God’s promise in a messiah, Jesus Christ. They will explore the expectant waiting for the Messiah through the Advent season and how this speaks to Christians today as they wait for Christ. Pupils will encounter the story of the nativity of Jesus and the mystery of the incarnation.

Reception have been enjoying a firework-themed week! They explored emotions through the story 'The Quiet Little Firework', used their phonics to describe exciting firework sounds , and practised cutting skills by matching numerals to quantities. The children also strengthened their fine motor skills making 'sparklers' in playdough and created their own firework artwork full of colour and sparkle! #EarlyYears #LearningThroughPlay #FireworkFun #PhonicsInAction #FineMotorSkills #CreativeLearning

Year 1 & 2 Visit to Church Today our Year 1 and 2 children visited Holy Trinity Church to celebrate the Feast of St Martin de Porres, one of our house saints. Father Albert shared stories about St Martin's life his kindness, humility, and love for everyone, especially those in need. The children reflected on how they can follow St Martin's example by showing care, generosity, and respect in their own lives. "Compassion, my dear friends, is the language of the heart." Remembrance Assembly & Promoting Peace Today, Reception, Year 1 and 2 came together for a special Remembrance Assembly, taking time to honour those who have given their lives in the service of others. As part of our Catholic Social Teaching, we reflected on the call to be peacemakers to follow Jesus' example of love, forgiveness, and hope in our world today. Our children have begun creating beautiful poppies in preparation for 11th November, each one a small symbol of remembrance and a prayer for peace. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Online Safety Zone

What is Roblox? Parents’ guide to playing safely

How can I help my child stay safe while playing Roblox?

If you’re one of the many parents who grapple with this question, explore the full guide below to build your confidence.

https://www.internetmatters.org/advice/apps-and-platforms/online-gaming/roblox/

Roblox is an online platform where users create and share their own games using simple tools. Because the content is user-generated, it doesn’t go through the same strict age ratings as commercial games. PEGI now recommends parental guidance (PEGI !) due to the wide range of content available.

Talking to strangers

Being an online game means that players in Roblox can interact and communicate with each other in various ways. This can be via voice or written text once friend requests have been made.

While parents might worry about children talking to strangers, it’s important to remember that most strangers are not predators. However, some strangers might target your child if they seem vulnerable.

Make sure your child understands that:

  • They should never share personal information like their address, school or anything else (even if the person says they live in a different country);

  • Some people are not who they say they are, so it’s better to be cautious;

  • They can come to you if they have any questions or concerns (and you will respond calmly and without judgement);

  • There are signs that someone might be targeting them for grooming, scams or other issues;

  • They can and should make use of the in-game reporting and blocking features if someone makes them uncomfortable.
