We know that parents and carers are the first and most enduring educators in a child’s life, and we value the important role families play in supporting children to flourish as they begin their educational journey. By working together, we can help every child reach their full potential.
Throughout the year, we offer a range of parent workshops and opportunities to learn alongside your child, including sessions on phonics, road safety, teeth brushing and many more. Once children are settled, families are invited into school for stay and play sessions, story sharing, trips to the town centre and beach visits.
There are many ways to support your child’s learning at home, including reading stories, singing songs, playing games, baking and joining us on school trips and events. Families can also get involved through our PTA and by engaging with our online learning platform, Tapestry.
Tapestry is our secure online learning journal for Nursery and Reception families, helping to strengthen the connection between home and school. It allows parents and carers to share in key moments of their child’s learning journey and celebrate important milestones in their development.
We use Tapestry alongside regular face-to-face communication, conversations at drop-off and pick-up times, termly meetings for nursery and parents evenings in Reception. Our priority will always be spending meaningful time with your children — playing, teaching, listening and supporting their learning through high-quality interactions, only snapping a photo if it doesn’t take the adult away from their engagement with the children.
Tapestry is a valuable tool, but it will never replace time spent engaging directly with children. Research and experience show that children make the greatest progress when adults are actively involved in their learning and play.
For this reason, you may not see constant daily updates. Instead, we share significant moments, new experiences and genuine milestones that celebrate each child’s unique journey. Families are also warmly encouraged to upload meaningful experiences from home so we can continue building strong links between children’s learning at home and at school.
We understand that every family uses Tapestry differently. If you ever need support with logging in, uploading observations or accessing content, please ask — we are always happy to help.
In our EYFS, we encourage families to “celebrate the scribble!” Early mark making is an important part of children’s development and is the foundation for later writing skills. Every line, swirl, dot, and drawing helps children develop hand strength, control, creativity, and confidence in expressing their ideas. By showing interest when children bring their masterpieces home, praise and talk about their creations – you are helping your child to feel proud of their achievements and motivated to keep exploring and learning.
We are delighted to invite parents and children to take part in the “Be School Ready” activities below, designed to help children feel happy, confident and excited about starting school. These fun and friendly activities support both parents and children for this exciting new chapter.
Alongside the activities, please read the Be School Ready Magazine, packed with helpful tips, ideas and guidance making the transition to school a smooth and enjoyable experience for the whole family.
