Prayer and Liturgy

At St Anne Line, we are committed to providing a daily act of prayer and liturgy, in line with the rites and practices of the Catholic Church. This is part of our educational mission and reflects the importance of spiritual development for all our pupils. We ensure that prayer and liturgy are central to our school life, nurturing a reflective, prayerful, and spiritually rich environment for every child.

Prayer is woven throughout the rhythm of our school day. Each classroom has a dedicated prayer space — a quiet, sacred area where pupils can pause, reflect, and share their prayers with God. These spaces change with the liturgical seasons, helping children to connect visually and spiritually with the Church’s year.

We also provide opportunities for spontaneous and personal prayer, encouraging pupils to express their faith in their own words. Whether during class discussions, moments of reflection, or times of joy or difficulty, children are supported to speak freely to God and develop a personal relationship with Him.

Prayer marks the beginning and end of our school day, as well as key moments of learning. At the start of each Religious Education lesson, pupils join together to pray for God’s guidance and wisdom, dedicating their learning to Him. This practice reminds us that faith is at the heart of all that we do, and that our learning is both a gift and a response to God’s love.

Our weekly whole-school liturgies, class worship, and assemblies allow pupils and staff to come together in prayer, scripture, and song, fostering a strong sense of community and shared faith. We celebrate the liturgical year through Masses, feast days, and special acts of collective worship, helping children to experience the richness of Catholic tradition.

To further strengthen the partnership between home and school, we also use Prayer Bags as part of our mission to nurture faith beyond the classroom. Each week, a different child takes a Prayer Bag home, providing an opportunity for families to gather in prayer together. The bag includes items such as a Bible, cross, candle, rosary, and prayer booklet, along with suggested prayers and reflections linked to the liturgical season or current school Gospel value.

Through these daily opportunities for prayer and reflection, we aim to ensure that every member of our school community grows closer to God, developing a deep sense of faith, gratitude, and compassion that guides their words, actions, and choices.
