Welcome to Science at St Anne Line Catholic Infant School. At our school, we believe a high-quality Science education provides the foundations for understanding God’s creation through the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Our carefully designed curriculum reflects our Catholic values by fostering a love of learning, inspiring awe at the natural world, and encouraging stewardship and care of God’s earth.
In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in Science, we implement a progressive, inclusive and engaging curriculum. Our bespoke Science curriculum is carefully designed to ensure knowledge is developed and built on over time. Learning is sequenced so that new knowledge connects to prior learning, enabling children to deepen their understanding, develop confidence, and make progress as they move through the school and into the next phase of their education.
Each unit is linked to a high-quality book, providing context and inspiration for scientific exploration and helping children to engage with concepts meaningfully. Units begin with an overarching enquiry question to guide learning, and every lesson includes a lesson-specific enquiry question to encourage curiosity, observation, and independent thinking. This enquiry-led approach ensures that pupils actively investigate, ask questions, and make sense of the world around them.
There are strong links between Science and PSHE/RSHE, Maths, English, and Religious Education, ensuring pupils make meaningful connections across subjects. This integrated approach helps children to apply knowledge in different contexts, see learning as purposeful and relevant, and develop both academic foundations and essential skills. Through these links, pupils cultivate scientific thinking, reflective skills, and the values and attitudes needed to grow as confident learners and responsible members of our community.
Children will leave St Anne Line with:
A secure knowledge and understanding of Science appropriate for their age.
Developed scientific enquiry and investigative skills.
A rich vocabulary to articulate their understanding.
The confidence, aspiration, and determination inspired by En Magna Constantia to succeed in their future studies and lives.
