At St Anne Line Infant School, music is not only a subject of the curriculum — it is a vital part of our Catholic identity and spiritual life.

Through our school values of Love, Learn, Pray, music becomes a sacred means of worship, reflection, and celebration. It nurtures the whole child, spiritually as well as creatively, allowing pupils to:

Pray through music: Singing hymns and reflective songs helps children express their faith and participate meaningfully in daily worship and liturgical celebrations.

Celebrate together: Music is central to school Masses, liturgies, feast days, and the liturgical year, helping pupils mark special occasions with joy and reverence.  Children who have signed up for Rock Steady band lessons will perform three times a year for children and families.

Experience God's presence: Children learn that music can be a pathway to encounter the beauty, peace, and mystery of God. It encourages wonder, stillness, and gratitude.

Live out Gospel values: Collaborative music-making supports teamwork, respect, perseverance (En Magna Constantia), and appreciation of others’ talents.

Develop their God-given gifts: Every child is encouraged to explore and share their musical talents as a way of giving glory to God and serving the school community.

We view music as a gift from God — a means to deepen our relationship with Him and with one another. Whether in classrooms, assemblies, or collective worship, music allows children to grow in faith, confidence and joy as part of our loving Catholic school family.

Music Curriculum

Our Music curriculum inspires children to enjoy, appreciate, and participate in music as creators, performers, and listeners. We deliver our curriculum through Charanga, providing a rich, structured, and progressive programme that develops pupils’ musical skills, confidence, and creativity.

We are fortunate to have Mrs Froud, a specialist music teacher from Essex Music Services, who teaches music across the school. Her expertise ensures that children experience high-quality musical instruction, exploring pulse, rhythm, pitch, composition, and performance in engaging and accessible ways.

By the end of Year 2, all pupils will have had the opportunity to learn and play a stringed instrument—the ukulele—developing early musicianship, coordination, and ensemble skills. These experiences help children understand how music is created and performed, giving them a strong foundation for future musical learning.

We also offer enrichment opportunities such as Rock Steady, where children who wish to do so can experience what it feels like to play in a real band on either vocals, drums, keyboard, electric or bass guitar.. Through this, pupils gain confidence, teamwork skills, and the excitement of making music together.

Our approach ensures that music is joyful, inclusive, and rooted in creativity, giving every child the chance to discover and express their musical talents.
