    Welcome to Maths at St Anne Line Catholic Infant School

    “We love, we learn, we pray.”

    Welcome to maths at St Anne Line.  I am Miss Bond, Assistant Headteacher and Maths Lead.  At St Anne Line, we believe that every child can be a successful mathematician. Maths helps our children make sense of God’s world — exploring pattern, order, and problem-solving with curiosity and confidence.

    Our Approach

    We follow the White Rose Maths scheme, which provides a clear and progressive curriculum that helps children build secure understanding step by step. We teach using a mastery approach, where all pupils move through learning together, developing fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

    Our teachers — trained through the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) — use the latest research and strategies to make learning meaningful, challenging, and fun.

    Practical Learning

    Maths at St Anne Line is hands-on and engaging. Children use practical resources such as counters, cubes, and place value charts to explore new ideas and make connections. They are encouraged to explain their thinking, work together, and apply maths to real-life situations.

    Our Vision

    We want every child to:

    • develop a deep understanding of maths concepts;

    • be confident, curious, and resilient learners;

    • enjoy solving problems and investigating patterns;

    • and believe that they can achieve in maths.

    We nurture mathematical minds and confident learners, who can face challenges by applying our school motto: 'En Magna Constantia.'

    The Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract approach in maths

    The CPA approach is used to deliver our teaching and scaffold learning.

    The maths calculation policies below show the methods and strategies used in school.

    Please use these to support your child at home with their maths.
