The Reading Spine at St Anne Line Catholic Infant School provides a core selection of books which teachers believe will help to inform, challenge, enrich and inspire a love of reading in our children. The books chosen help to encourage children to expand their reading worlds and for them to be introduced to a variety of authors. Our vision is for this spine to evolve and grow year-on-year as it is influenced by the children’s appetite, staff recommendations and new publications.  Core books and rhymes are used in Nursery. Some books are repeated, which helps to encourage the children to become familiar with the stories, join in with repeated phrases, and develop confidence in predicting what will happen next. This repetition also supports early language development, strengthens memory, and fosters a love of reading as children begin to recognise and retell parts of the story independently.
