      Mrs Davis - PE Lead

Welcome to Physical Education at St Anne Line Catholic Infant School.  Here we aim to inspire and engage children’s interest in sporting activities through providing a wide range of opportunities within school and after school.  We aim to foster children’s interest in physical wellbeing and healthy lifestyles in order to establish long-lasting lifestyle messages.  We aim to promote our Catholic values through sports and positively encourage children to share, respect, support, trust and work together.

Our curriculum aligns with national standards while embedding recent research insights to improve accessibility, engagement, and overall physical activity in schools. In line with the 2023 Ofsted report Levelling the Playing Field, we provide a broad and ambitious PE curriculum that includes a diverse range of activities—ensuring every child has the opportunity to enjoy physical education and develop lifelong healthy habits.  This curriculum is adapted yearly to align with our pupils and recent government research.

Our curriculum focusses on building children’s confidence, enjoyment, and physical development through a broad and engaging range of activities, skills and games:

    Fundamental Movement Skills

We help children develop key skills such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching, while also strengthening balance, agility, and coordination. Activities like obstacle courses and simple throwing and catching games support these essential early movement skills. Our youngest children in Ducklings and Wagtails also benefit from sessions with a specialist PE coach, who delivers high-quality multi-skills teaching.

    Team Games

Children are introduced to basic attacking and defending tactics through fun, inclusive team activities. Games such as tag, relay races, and non-contact versions of sports encourage teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking in a safe and supportive environment.

    Dance and Gymnastics

Dance is taught by a specialist dance teacher from Nursery (Ducklings) through to Year 2. These sessions give pupils the chance to express themselves creatively while developing rhythm, control, and coordination. Children learn simple routines and are encouraged to create and share their own sequences.
